ไอเอ็มเอฟ ออกรายงานเตือนเมื่อวันอังคาร(27ก.ค.)ว่าการฟื้นตัวของเศรษฐกิจโลกยังคงดำเนินอยู่แต่ก็ยังคงมีความเหลื่อมล้ำอย่างมากระหว่างประเทศที่มีเศรษฐกิจก้าวหน้า ตลาดเกิดใหม่หลายประเทศและประเทศกำลังพัฒนา เพราะการเข้าถึงวัคซีนป้องกันโรคโควิด-19ที่ไม่เท่าเทียมกัน และการขาดการสนับสนุนด้านงบประมาณ
รายงานเตือนของไอเอ็มเอฟฉบับล่าสุด มีขึ้นหลังจากประมาณกลางเดือนก.ค.ที่ผ่านมา เกิดการชุมนุมประท้วงครั้งใหญ่ในคิวบา ที่เป็นอีกประเทศหนึ่งที่พึ่งพิงรายได้จากการท่องเที่ยวเป็นหลัก แต่ต้องเผชิญภาวะชะงักงันจากวิกฤตโรคระบาด จนส่งผลกระทบอย่างรุนแรงต่อสภาพเศรษฐกิจ และการดำเนินชีวิตของประชาชน
ชาวคิวบานับหมื่นคนออกมาเดินขบวนประท้วงในหลายเมือง เพื่อแสดงความไม่พอใจการบริหารจัดการของรัฐบาล โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งการระบาดของโรคโควิด-19 และมาตรการทางเศรษฐกิจที่รัฐบาลนำมาใช้ได้สร้างความยากลำบากให้ชาวคิวบา ก่อให้เกิดความไม่พอใจสะสมจนนำมาสู่การชุมนุมประท้วง
นอกจากนี้ ยังเกิดเหตุจลาจลและปล้นสะดมร้านค้าในหลายประเทศของแอฟริกาใต้ โดยมีสาเหตุมาจากความไม่พอใจที่รัฐบาลไม่เร่งแก้ปัญหาปากท้องประชาชน รวมทั้งความยากลำบากและความเหลื่อมล้ำที่เกิดขึ้นจากเศษฐกิจที่ได้รับผลกระทบอย่างหนักจากโรคโควิด-19 ระบาดจำนวน จนส่งผลให้ผู้เสียชีวิตอย่างน้อย 77 ราย
รายงานฉบับนี้ของไอเอ็มเอฟ ระบุว่า ความเหลื่อมล้ำในการเข้าถึงวัคซีนเป็นตัวขับเคลื่อนหลักที่จะทำให้ความสามารถในการพลิกฟื้นเศรษฐกิจของกลุ่มประเทศพัฒนาแล้วกับกลุ่มประเทศพัฒนาน้อยแตกต่างกัน
"ประเทศที่มีการแพร่ระบาดของไวรัสกลายพันธุ์และมีผู้ติดเชื้อโควิด-19จำนวนมากอาจจะไม่สามารถพลิกฟื้นเศรษฐกิจได้ตามเป้าที่วางไว้ และสิ่งนี้จะทำให้เกิดความสูญเสียทางเศรษฐกิจคิดเป็นมูลค่า 4.5 ล้านล้านดอลลาร์ของผลิตภัณฑ์มวลรวมภายในประเทศ(จีดีพี)โลก ภายในปี 2568"กีตา โกปินาธ หัวหน้านักเศรษฐศาสตร์ไอเอ็มเอฟ ระบุ
