จากการที่รัฐบาลได้มีนโยบายผลักดัน "สมาร์ทซิตี้ (https://www.ciens.xyz/Guestpost/)" หรือ เมืองอัจฉริยะ โดยกำหนดพื้นที่นำร่อง 14 แห่งทั่วประเทศ ซึ่งรวมถึงพื้นที่เศรษฐกิจ ต.กะรน จ.ภูเก็ต จะเป็นต้นแบบจังหวัดอัจฉริยะที่ยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตและสร้างโมเดลธุรกิจ
ภายใต้การร่วมมือ คิดและออกแบบขององค์กรในท้องถิ่นและเอกชน ผ่านโครงสร้างพื้นฐานด้านดิจิทัลและการสื่อสารโทรคมนาคมเสาอัจฉริยะ เปลี่ยนจากเสาไฟธรรมดาเป็นเสาอัจฉริยะ

เรือเอกเจด็จ วิชรศรณ์ นายกเทศมนตรีตำบลกะรน จังหวัดภูเก็ต กล่าวระหว่างการเสวนาเรื่อง "การพัฒนาโครงสร้างพื้นฐาน Lucky Pole เพื่อการเชื่อมโยงและพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจการท่องเที่ยวสู่เมืองสมาร์ทซิตี้" ว่า เทศบาลตำบลกะรนเตรียมการพัฒนาพื้นที่ให้เป็นพื้นที่เศรษฐกิจ โดยการบูรณาการข้อมูลและเทคโนโลยีดิจิทัลเข้ากับโครงสร้างพื้นฐาน ตลอดจนบริการต่างๆ โดยมีเป้าหมายเพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาส่วนรวม รวมทั้งสร้างสภาพแวดล้อมที่น่าอยู่ยิ่งขึ้นและอย่างยั่งยืน ขณะเดียวกันมุ่งหวังผลก่อให้เกิดผลผลิตมากขึ้น
"เรามองเรื่องการพัฒนาเมืองตำบลกะรน ให้เป็นเมืองที่น่าอยู่ ด้วยความเป็นอยู่ที่ดี และเศรษฐกิจของเมืองซึ่งอิงกับการท่องเที่ยวเป็นหลัก ตั้งแต่ต้นน้ำถึงปลายน้ำ เช่น การท่องเที่ยว รถให้บริการสาธารณะ อาหารทะเล ตลอดจนทุกคนมีคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดี เมืองมีภูมิทัศน์ที่สวยงามขึ้น จึงได้มีแนวคิดที่จะยกระดับตำบลกะรน ให้เป็นต้นแบบของสมาร์ทซิตี้ ด้วยการดำเนินการต่างๆ อาทิ การวางโครงสร้างพื้นฐานสื่อสารโทรคมนาคม เสาอัจฉริยะ การจัดระเบียบสายไฟฟ้า และสายสื่อสารลงดิน การติดตั้งระบบกล้องวงจรปิดอัจฉริยะ อุปกรณ์และเทคโนโลยไอโอที (IoT) เพื่อให้มีการจัดการแบบรวมศูนย์ และผลักดันให้พื้นที่ตำบลกะรนสู่เมืองอัจฉริยะ"
